Kitchen Sinks
People often underestimate how much a kitchen sink can give a whole new look to a room.
Today there are many varieties of sinks available from fine manufacturers such as Blanco
Sinks that greatly increase both the beauty and the utility of your kitchen. One of
today's great design developments is the undermount kitchen sinks that are available.
Undermount kitchen sinks look as though they are recessed into the kitchen counter or are a
seamless part of it. Instead of having a lip that sits on top of the counter, undermount
kitchen sinks are installed to the underside of the kitchen counter cut-out, and many
manufacturers such as Blanco kitchen sinks can also offer countertops that are precut to
accommodate their sinks.
One of the most beautiful design elements available in sinks today are vessel sinks. These
look like washbasins and rest on top of the counter. They are one of the most popular types
of sinks in remodels and new construction today. Vessel sinks come in a variety of shapes,
from bowls to squares to fluted designs, and can be made of metal, glass, or ceramic. Many
have one-of-a-kind artisan designs and look like hand blown glass or handmade pottery.
Vessel sinks, because they extend above the working surface, may often be used in lavatories
or as an extra wet-bar sink in the kitchen, rather than as the main sink where they tend to
interfere with the flow of counter surface. Because they are often made from glass-type
materials, they are also more easily subject to damage in high-traffic areas. However,
stainless steel sinks and copper sinks are also available as vessel sinks. Copper kitchen
sink are another interesting design element that make a visual impact different from typical
stainless steel sinks. Stainless steel that is copper-colored may be more durable than
genuine copper sinks, which require special care. Copper is, by its nature, a soft metal,
and therefore may scratch more easily. Copper can also be marred by extreme heat, so you
will need to be careful not to put hot pots directly from a burner into the sink. Various
shiny and polished finishes are available for copper kitchen sink, which can come in bright
or antique tones. When installing a new kitchen sink, consider the size you really need.
If you have a dishwasher, you may not need the kind of double sink many of us grew up with.
A single-bowl sink may be sufficient. There are also special designs of double sinks with
shallow areas for rinsing vegetables, etc. The material from which the sink is made will
also dictate whether it is predrilled to accommodate faucets and sprayers or whether you
will need to have your counters drilled to accommodate the plumbing.
